Siblings – January

20140111-100148.jpg

I’m joining in with a new linky project from the lovely Dear Beautiful this year, looking at siblings.

As you know my two only became siblings less than a month ago when Alexander was born on the 16th December, so we’re still very early in their relationship and to be honest both are largely still indifferent to each other!

However this month, Elliot has enjoyed telling people about his brother and recently when picking him up from nursery we’ve been told that Alexander has been a big topic of conversation for Elliot. He’s starting to be quite caring for his baby brother and it’s really sweet when he kisses him goodnight.

There’s been a few occasions then I’ve been asked to “put Alex down” and we’re still in a phase of needing mummy to do things like feeding Elliot his weetabix, which although annoying is totally understandable I think and hopefully something he’ll grow out of.

I’m really looking forward to watching these brothers get to know each other over the next year so this linky project couldn’t come at a better time for us!

A Postcard from Ghana: 25 years of Comic Relief

Last week there was a huge guessing game going on among blogging types over on Twitter – you see Annie, Tanya and Penny (from Mammasaurus, Alexander Residence and MummyBarrow) were waiting with bated breath to announce some very exciting news!

They had been invited to travel to Ghana with Comic Relief this week to see how the money we’ve all been donating for the last 25 years has been used in a number of different projects from schools to bakeries. They were joined by celebrities – Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross. What an amazing trip of a lifetime!

Luckily these lovely women have been sharing their experiences with us and sending personalised virtual postcards from their trip. Mine arrived today, and I have to admit I welled up a bit when I opened it especially to see the smiling eyes of a little boy shining out of my computer. It made me hug my little boy, Elliot, ever so slightly tighter this evening.

Well done TeamHonk! Let’s hear it for 25 years of Comic Relief!

Dear Philippa

Within minutes of arriving at the Virtuous Women’s Bakery this little fellow popped his head over the nursery wall into the courtyard. He’s the very first child I photographed, so we were both a bit shy. When we arrived the children were singing and dancing. Davina joined in for a dance while this little fellow said hello to us over the wall.

The bakery gives women the opportunity of financial independence and having the nursery on site means they can work.

Love Penny

The perfect curl

Dear Elliot,

You’ve got the most amazing hair at the moment, like a halo of curls around your beautiful face. So amazing it stops people in the street who feel compelled to tell us how beautiful you are (we know this already!) and who only occasionally (more often than I’d like) mistake you for a girl!

I know deep down that the time is coming where we’ll have to make a decision to cut your hair, but right now I’m making a pact with myself to put that off for as long as possible.

An example of “the perfect curl”:

23 months and counting…

Dear Elliot,

Wow! In exactly one month you will be officially a two-year old. How did that happen so fast?

I now realise what so many people have told me in the past. It goes so fast! Maybe it’s because I’ve been back at work for the past year, but 2012 has gone so amazingly quickly I barely feel like I’ve had time to catch my breath, let alone keep up with this blog.

My new years resolution will therefore be to document our lives a bit more regularly. I find myself waiting for the ‘important things’ to happen for me to write about, when in truth I should be writing about every little thing you’re doing – like how you can now recite the Thomas the Tank Engine theme tune, or do the actions to ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, how you know your alphabet and can count to 12, and how you say ‘night, night’ every night as you rest your head on your pillow. You are amazing and I promise to take notes more regularly in future so we can all remember how fab you were aged 2!

In the meantime, one of my favourite pictures from Summer 2012, for reasons that you’ll understand one day when you’re a big boy.

All my love,

Mummy xxx
