Siblings – November

I told myself this month’s siblings post wasn’t going to start with any of the normal “how is it November already?”, “OMG it’s nearly Christmas!” or “can’t believe how fast this year has gone”, but seriously….it’s gone so fast we’ve missed a month! Apologies for lack of October post – it only got as far as a draft…

I go back to work next week. Not next month, or in a couple of weeks, but next week. 6 days away.

I feel like I’m at the end of one chapter and about to turn over a crisp new page to a whole new one. A ‘working mummy of two’ chapter. Come back soon and see how it goes?

In the meantime, the change in the season has happened and I’ve been busy getting the boys settled into their new routines of nursery/preschools etc. (it’s so complicated we have a whiteboard installed in our kitchen!)

The boys have spent time playing together, enjoying each other’s company for the most part (when there’s no train track around that is!)

The relationship blossoming between them is amazing to watch. They genuinely seem to love each other. How cool!

I’ve also been really listening to the lyrics of several songs we had just been hearing previously. Below is one that seems to fit perfectly with the colder weather, and my desire to wrap up my boys and keep them safe and warm at all times.

And we will keep you,
We will keep you
Little one, safe from harm,
Like an extra arm, you are a part of us<

Laura Marling, Goodbye England (Covered In Snow)

So, life is about to change, see you on the other side!! Hopefully the boys will still be as smiley…

Siblings – September

IMG_5960.JPG

I am super late with my September siblings post. We’ve been settling in to a new routine this month with Elliot starting two additional morning sessions at a local preschool and Alexander and I are back in our routine of baby music classes.

Alexander has become very mobile over the past month so these two have been finding new ways of playing with each other and I’m loving watching their relationship change ever so slightly!

Siblings – August

A late one from me this month. It’s no excuse but to be perfectly honest time is just passing way too quickly at the moment and upon scanning over my photos of the month I realised I had no pictures of the boys together for the whole month. Rubbish.

So this evening during a little post-nursery/pre-bedtime play in the garden I snapped the boys in their playhouse.

The playhouse was put up last year and has been being enjoyed by Elliot ever since. In the last week or so Elliot has been asking Alexander to join him so we’ve been putting him in there too, before being asked by Elliot to get out. He’s enjoying showing his little brother what fun he gets up to in there.

We’ve put a desk in there that I made when I was at school, and an old rug makes a cosy floor. I also got some pockets from ikea to go on the wall for much needed storage, and some time ago my Dad (the boys’ Grampy) bought Elliot some led dragonfly lights which he likes to switch on and off.

I think they’ll have many years of happiness in their little house. It’s even been given it’s own number (55) by Elliot putting stickers on the door!

Siblings – July

Hello July!

This month – since the last Siblings post – we have seen major developments in Alexander’s abilities – at nearly seven months old he can now sit up really well and this means he can start to interact more when Elliot is playing.

Elliot is such a loving and caring big brother, always ready to talk to Alexander and tell him what’s going on, and he’s really good at keeping him occupied with toys and cuddles. He loves riding on the buggy board as he gets to talk to Alexander and let me know each time Alex smiles at him.

Elliot frequently tells us he loves his little brother – ok so I am sure that may change as the years progress but it’s really heart melting at the moment.

This month’s siblings photos were taken yesterday as Alexander started playing with our wooden alphabet blocks. Elliot soon got excited about it and they actually (almost) started playing together. It was so cute (and yes I got carried away and started spelling with the blocks…)

These two really are very cool kids. I’m so proud of my little family!

Siblings – June

This month has seen our first holiday as a family of four, and lots of time spent together in the sunshine with picnics out, trips to Blenheim Palace and Cogges Farm. The boys have really enjoyed being in each other’s company, and so far (touch wood) we’ve still not had any real resentment issues from Elliot. He loves to give Alexander cuddles and takes real pleasure in telling us that Alexander is smiling when he sees him.

Alexander has learnt to roll, so is spending lots of time moving around the living room floor. I’ve started to wonder why we even own sofas as I seem to spend a lot of my time down on the rug with both boys building train tracks/stopping Alexander from rolling under the sofas (it has happened far too many times already….bad mummy I know) I also really need to buy new jeans as mine seem to be wearing thin on the knees!

Elliot is still pretty camera shy and doesn’t ever like to pose for a photo. Most pics are taken while he’s doing something else or focused on someone/the tv (again, bad mummy skills…)

My photo for this month’s siblings project is therefore not a cute ‘brotherly hug and smile at camera’ photo (though I do hope that this does happen at some point this year?!?) but it does capture a brilliant morning spent playing on the floor.

Happy June everyone 🙂
